Riding Lessons

Sara is proud to offer individualized instruction at the rate of $30 per hour. English and Western styles are taught with most students opting for the English style. There is a variety of horses as well as ponies available. Sara strives to match student’s personalities to that of the horse to maximize your riding experience. It is not uncommon for students to ride several horses over the course of their instruction

Depending upon your skill level the lessons may consist of barn familiarization, tack instruction and familiarization, horse grooming, horse anatomy and stall management. For those also interested, pasture management round pen management and instruction are also available. Instruction is performed in our beautiful 100 ft. by 200 ft. lighted arena with footing that consists of a combination of soil, fine gravel and sand. It is groomed periodically to maintain its consistency.

With the installation of our arena lights in early July 2011, Sara is pleased to be able to offer a selected number on night time instruction slots

Safety is foremost at our facility. Helmets are mandatory whenever a person is on a horse. If you do not own your own helmet we have a selection that will fit just about any age. For those beginners as well as more advanced riders who are concerned about inadvertently falling off, we have available a selection of padded safety vests which may be used. The horse that is chosen for your instruction will be the safest fit for your size, personality and skill level.

A mounting block is available for use by all.

At the instructor's discretion, trail rides on adjacent cattle farms may be undertaken to enhance the student’s experience. Reflective safety vests are available and mandatory for if and when riders leave the property. We have worked with the Sullivan County Highway Department to have signs posted locally to alert drivers of the horse presence in order to augment your safety if and when a trail ride is undertaken.

Discount instruction rates for families who desire to take lessons together or for joint lessons may also be offered at Sara's discretion.

It is requested and greatly appreciated if riders would disclose any pertinent or significant medical conditions that may affect riding. Privacy is strictly maintained for this information.

For the non-riding siblings or children of students, there is a selection of toys available that may be utilized during a lesson.

Hawley Farm Stables is located on a quiet country lane. If non-riding family members desire they may exercise, run or bicycle on the surrounding roads.
