About Sara

Sara Riggins was born in England.  She was raised on a dairy farm in the village of Seighford, a small village in the Midlands of England.  Always wanting horses, she obtained her first horse, Winston, when she was in her early teens.  She enjoyed riding him throughout the fields of her family's 300 acre dairy farm as well as throughout the village and local countryside.  She also enjoyed riding him on many local fox hunts and continued riding him in till she married her husband Matthew. Moving to the Tri-Cities area of Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol Tennessee in 1987, she obtained her first horse in the United States in 1988, a quarter horse named Domino.  In 1992 Sara decided to change professions from that of registered nurse to a farrier, training at the Eastern School of Farriery in Martinsville, Virginia under Danny Ward.  In 2004 an opportunity for buying land presented itself and Hawley Farm Stables became a reality, with the first boarders being taken in early 2005.  Since then Sara has boarded many horses as well as introduced many people to the joys of horseback riding.  She currently owns five horses, one partially retired and four used for riding lessons, training and showing.  She continues to work as a farrier in addition to her barn venture.  Remaining a citizen of England to this day, she and her husband have one child, Ian, who also enjoys riding.
